Day 156 – a simple tailor

Day 156 - a simple tailor

Fixing O’Brien’s trousers… again.

I just realised that that is a terrible scan!  I’m running late tonight so I can’t fix it.

I’ve done this one before but I definitely expanded upon it this time round (I think last time he was hand sewing) so I got to design a Cardassian sewing machine.

Original Star Trek 365 illustrations are available on Etsy and are posted at approx 8:00am Brisbane QLD Australia time. Today’s is late so it’ll be up there now if it’s still available.

Day 155 – Live Long and PawsPurr

Spock and Isis the cat

Live Long and PawsPurr

This is the last drawing I did before heading off to Sydney last week so tonight I should be sitting down after the break.  It’s the longest break from drawing I’ve had all year!

This one is definitely going to be turned into a t-shirt!

Day 154 – Home Soil

Day 154 - Home Soil
I LOVE how this shot is framed in the episode home soil.  I actually really love that episode too but this is a great shot to showcase several of the cast and I like how Dr Crusher had so much to do in this episode for a change (actually I think everyone gets something to do).
Good science fiction.  But you could always go listen to the Star Trek First Watch podcast episode on it to hear what I thought of the rewatch.

Day 153 – Reed is pinned by a Romulan mine

Day 153 - Reed is pinned by a Romulan mine

I’ve done this drawing before, I’m certain of it and I’m too lazy to go confirm it (busy, not lazy).  Hopefully I improved on it slightly, I did use an Archer figurine to get some of the angles correct.  I really liked this episode, it was a great way to introduce this era of Romulans especially since if the show had continued we probably would have seen the Romulan war (which was covered in the books).

Day 152 – Ru’afo is unhappy

Day 152 - Ru'afo is unhappy

This entire mission has been one Federation blunder after another. You will return my men or this alliance will end with the destruction of your ship.

I like Star Trek Insurrection for the most part and Ru’afo is a good villain, he has motivation and represents the worst of the Sona.  Impatient, refusing to take the time to repair their corrupted bodies.

I dislike some of the attempts at humour in Insurrection, I dislike them as much as Ru’afo dislikes Picard.

Day 151 – Seeing the Bounty off

Day 151 - Seeing the Bounty off

Amanda and Saavik watch the Bounty leave Vulcan.

It’s one of my favourite shots, as the Bounty leaves Vulcan and we get a great close up of Amanda and Saavik watching her take off.  Of course it fuels the fires of whether or not Saavik is pregnant with Spock’s child but I think it can equally just mean that Amanda has taken her in knowing full well what’s it’s like for a child of two worlds.

I would have liked to have seen what became of Saavik, did she return to Starfleet and was she pardoned the same way that the bridge crew of the late USS Enterprise were in the aftermath of the whale probe incident.  Or did she leave Starfleet altogether after such a savage experience?

At any rate I was hesitant to try this one because I love the shot so much and didn’t want to do it an injustice through my scribbles.

Day 150 – Posing for pictures

Day 150 - Posing for pictures - Star Trek Voyager

Wow, one hundred and fifty Star Trek illustrations.  Where has the year gone?

What I enjoyed most about doing this one on the big A3 paper is that all the people in it are still tiny, they’re smaller than I usually draw them on A4 paper LOL.  I’ve actually done an illustration like this in the past but this one is a vast improvement in details and pose.

I don’t know why but I’m a little obsessed with the landing struts on the Voyager and as an illustrator of Star trek things have spent more than my fair share studying them though I’ll admit several parts are “made up”.

Day 149 – Caitian Admiral

Day 149 - Caitian Admiral

Is it wrong to refer to him as Admiral Fuzzy Whiskers?

So apparently unofficially this is a Caitian Admiral, I really REALLY wish that M’Ress was sitting there because that would have been awesome and a wonderful easter egg for TAS fans.

So tomorrow is the BIG 150th and I’ve got something afoot for you all.

Day 148 – Council chamber delegate from Star Trek IV

Day 148 - Council chamber delegate from Star Trek IV

See this is one of the major differences in the effectiveness of the marketing machine that is Star Wars compared to what Star Trek seems to struggle with.  If this was a Star Wars character we would have a name for this alien, a backstory and probably an action figure.  Boba Fett’s name is never even said in Empire Strikes Back but everyone knew who he was.

I think it’s a shame that all this effort goes into the development of these aliens but then they don’t bother fleshing them out into an expanded universe. I might be wrong, this guy might have a name or a species listing somewhere, but I couldn’t find it.

I’m going to do one more of these for tomorrow (and maybe the day after 150th) and then we’re back to regular scribbles for a while – I’d like to get a run of them done.

Day 147 – Council chamber delegate from Star Trek IV

Day 147 - Council chamber delegate from Star Trek IV

I’m sure she has a name but whilst she’s definitely onscreen all I can really find is the reference photo of her in The Art of Star Trek which doesn’t give a name or species.
