Day 229 – Lieutenant M’Ress – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series

Day 229 – Lieutenant M'Ress – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series
Lieutenant M’Ress – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series 6/25

I almost forgot to include our favourite Caitian and overlook The Animated Series which I wouldn’t have been happy about at all.

I’d love to see M’Ress represented in the Kelvin timeline films, even if she was simply in the background and now with Chekov’s absence on the bridge it would also be a perfect time to include Arex as well.

I think the sketch card set is going really well and we’ve already had almost half of the preorders locked in which is exciting as I explore printing options.

This is part of my Women of Star Trek sketch card set. It’s a set of 25 cards featuring the leading ladies of Trek from across the series.  The set is available for pre-order now and the original cards are on sale as below.

Original Star Trek 365 illustrations are available to purchase and are posted at 8:00 am Brisbane QLD Australia time.

Nurse Christine Chapel – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series 5/25

It’s fitting that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry will appear multiple times in this list and my favourite role of hers is that of Christine Chapel.

Like Rand I appreciated her continued presence throughout the movies though I think that she could have featured more heavily, especially in Star Trek III The Search for Spock.

A wonderful character.

Day 227 – Yeoman Janice Rand – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series

Yeoman Janice Rand – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series 4/25

Oh Janice Rand, in the series for only a very short while when compared to her impact on the show.  She has delivered or been part of some of my favourite scenes in Star Trek.

The shot of her shaking her head as she watches the Enterprise limp home in Star Trek III The Search For Spock is probably the stand out for me but having her a continuing presence throughout the films was a real joy.

If only she could have carried on in the original run.

I’m not going to comment on the reasons for her leaving as that narrative doesn’t define the simple awesomeness of Rand.

I know that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry is the first lady of Star Trek but I have to hail Uhura / Nichelle Nichols as the Queen.

An inspiration for African Americans and women in general she is an important figure in cultural history.  Plus Nichols is an amazing ambassador for the franchise and the ideals that it’s formed around.

Day 225 – Yeoman J.M. Colt – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series

I don’t know why but I love drawing Yeoman Colt, I guess I just really dig her look.  I’m not sure she gets as much love out in the fandom as Number One does which for me is a shame because she’s the prototype for our Janice.

Day 224 – Number One – Women of Star Trek Sketch Card series

Day 224 - Number One - Woman of Star Trek Sketch Card series
Women of Star Trek Sketch Card Series – 1/25 Number One

So with my scanner having shuffled off this mortal coil I have had to shift things around and start my Women of Star Trek card series using markers.  It’s a set of 25 cards featuring the leading ladies of Trek from across the series.

Kicking off this set is, of course, the most logical woman to start with, the enigmatic Number One from the original Star Trek pilot The Cage.

I really love The Cage, it’s, dare I say it, the superior pilot despite not having our normal cast of characters.  I would have been fascinated to see where this would have gone.

I also should note that whilst I’m skeptical and cynical about Pike and crew being in Discovery season 2 I do think they have nailed the casting of Number One and I appreciate the acknowledgement of her importance.

Day 223 – “Chef” talks with Hoshi

Day 223 - "Chef" talks with Hoshi

I’m not even going to get into the whole “how bad a last episode” this was because it’s a very sad day in the Sargent household as my trusty V600 Epson scanner has died.

It’s an expensive scanner that at the time was considered to be the absolute best for watercolour sketches, five years later and it went off and just wouldn’t come back on.

Fortunately or maybe unfortunately I have a cheap scanner/printer combo which I hate and produces really shit scans but it’s all I’ve got for the time being until I can sort a decent replacement.

Maybe I should do a ink and markers run instead just until the new one gets here 🙁

Day 222 – Cellular peptide cake with mint frosting

Day 222 - Cellular peptide cake with mint frosting

How could I have a food themed week and not include this??

I think I’d like to ask whether or not this was an actual cake and did people get to eat it afterwards?

I captured the inked lines because I might pop this on a t-shirt because I like to include random Trek images on t-shirts LOL

At least you know you’ll be wearing something somewhat unique.

Day 221 – Neelix

Neelix in his kitchen

I couldn’t have a food themed week without Neelix and I had it drawn to my attention that I hadn’t really featured him yet.

I was never a massive fan of Neelix in the first run of Voyager but the character really grew on me over the years and I really like the idea of having a proper galley (jury-rigged sure) on board if only for morale purposes.

I guess with the replicators it’s hard storyline wise to avoid their magical properties.  It would seem to me that whatever fuels them should be reasonably easy to replace since it’s really just reorganising matter into a pattern.

But where would be the fun in that?

Day 220 – Er. General, are you fond of …Shakes ….peare?

Day 220 - Er. General, are you fond of ...Shakes ....peare?

As part of the food theme I 100% wanted to include this scene from Star Trek VI but finding a way to have them both in the frame was killing me.

Given how long it took to work it out (eventually I found an inspired manga that helped me frame the picture and pose the klingon) I probably should have cut my losses and just featured the Klingon but I was determined to include Uhura.

So it’s a fun image but I’d have rathered something more “just me”.
