Day 104 – Star Trek V The Final Frontier poster

day 104 - Star Trek V The Final Frontier poster

Star Trek V The Final Frontier

I love Star Trek V.

I don’t care what you think, I don’t care about the production problems, or the underwelming special effects or the wrong number of decks.  I love the ambition of Star Trek V and the scope of it.  I love the character building and I love “excuse me, what does God need with a starship?”.

I love the addition of Sybok, of course Spock’s brother would be banished and in search of a greater being.  I think that the character doesn’t get enough credit in the franchise universe and adds an extremely interesting componet to Spock and Sarek.

The teaser poster would have been significantly easier than this one lol.

Now, the posters are going to go on sale individually.  They are going to be more expensive than the regular pieces.  I will give plenty of warning of when they go up.  In the meantime the first four posters are being made available in postcard sets and will up for preorder in the next couple of days.  If they’re popular then the remaining posters will join them as I complete them.

Day 103 – Jake and Nog up to mischief

Day 103 - Jake and Nog up to mischief - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

Jake and Nog are going to be caught.

Well I was a little lost for what to draw today so I opened it up on Twitter for suggestions.  Not something I tend to do a lot because people can get disappointed if I don’t get a chance to do their choice.  That said the overwhelming response (around 70 plus suggestions) were actually quite useful to gauge general themes of what everyone wants to see.  I’m going to go through and collect everyone’s answers and see how many I can muster.

The one I picked was:

There was no massive deliberation, the word mischief just grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and demanded to be brought to life.  I always felt that Jake and Nog were good for the show, they added an element to what DS9 was about, families living on a station.

Day 102 – A Group of Living Legends

Day 102 - A Group of Living Legends - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent

Captain Harriman welcomes the group of living legends aboard the Enterprise B

Captain Harriman has got to have had the absolutely worst day and that includes the time Chekov go a ceti eel in his ear.  Imagine taking your new ship out for the first time and not only failing to rescue a number of people aboard two ships but alos losing the most famous of Starfleet heroes.  I mean what was his next day like?  How do you recover from that?!?

Also ALL captured on camera.

Personally I would have just waited until Wednesday.

Day 101 – Commander William T Riker

Day 101 - Commander William T Riker - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

Commander William T Riker

Riker is probably my favourite TNG character, only really rivaledby Worf who has steadily endeared himself to me over the years. Riker is an explorer at heart and I wanted to depict him in a really alien landscape, well as alien as the Star Trek sets can muster sometimes, so weird coloured boulders equals really alien LOL.

A nice straight forward one after yesterday’s.

Day 100 – Deep Space Nine is surrounded by Klingons

Day 100 - Deep Space Nine is surrounded by Klingons - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

The Way of the Warrior

Um wow.  100 days straight and I haven’t missed a day yet.

I would have loved to get the borg piece completed for day 100 but my head cold had other ideas.  So instead I give you DS9 surrounded by the Klingons from The Way of the Warrior in big A3 size.  I was so hesitant to do this one because I’m not a technical illustrator, I don’t draw straight lines or perfect dimensions and I hate painting space.

So I thought for the 100th lets push hard and include every thing that I don’t enjoy doing in one picture and I have to admit it was kinda fun to do.

Plus I knew I had to do DS9 sooner or later and I always loved the scen of it surrounded by the Klingon fleet.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and the project so far, it’s been a honest to god blast.  Now on to the next 265…

Day 99 – Into the Forest I Go

Day 99 - Into the Forest I Go - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

Dr Culber watches Stamets in the spore chamber

Dr Culber spends a lot of time standing next to med beds LOL so it didn’t leave me with a huge amount to pick from (reference photos are few and far between until TrekCore start screencaps).  But this one caught my eye and I wanted the challenge of presenting glass and spores and energy and stuff.

I can now confirm tomorrow will NOT be another Doctor piece, even though the Borg illustration couldn’t be done in time I’ve still got something big planned for tomorrow.

Day 98 – Our Man Bashir

Day 98 - Our Man Bashir - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

Our Man Bashir

I’m not so taken with broken holodeck episodes personally but I have to say that Our Man Bashir is one of the absolutely most requested episodes I get.  There’s something about Garak and Bashir in tuxedos that captures everyone’s imagination!

To continue on with my Doctor theme during this period of the uncommon cold (which is really starting to drag out – the cold not the drawings) I thought this is a stand out for Bashir.

Day 97 – I thought it best to keep you sedated while the osmotic eel cauterised your wound.

Very nice, very nice. Your myofibres are fusing beautifully.

I love that I know that the osmotic eel was kept in Michael Westmore’s top drawer in his office whilst not in use on set.  I really appreciated Dr Phlox’s holistic approach, merging state of the art science with traditional natural remedies that worked.  It was a great element of Enterprise that took a slight edge off the stuffiness that is sometimes starfleet.

Day 96 – the EMH awaits a repair team

Day 96 - the EMH awaits a repair team - star trek 365 by Lee Sargent 2018

He’s just a little short on patients

Yeah it’s a scene I’d been thinking of doing for a while now and this brief trip into Doctor territory was the perfect time for it.

It’s actually a very dehumanising and insulting manner in which they treat the Doctor which I’m glad is addressed later on in the series.

Now this one tickled me enough that I’ve added it to our Star Trek scribbles t-shirt collection (you can also get coffee cups and stuff too):

You can check him out plus other designs on my Threadless store.

Day 95 – My patients don’t walk out in the middle of an operation.

One more like that, and I’m going to lose both these men.

Despite the blasted cough that lingers I’m actually enjoying having this “Doctor” theme running and I’m taking my time with these.  I actually mixed the colours for the sheets and the blue robes myself because I didn’t have the tone I was looking for.

The only thing I’d change here is to bring McCoy’s arm back slightly to show the cuff of the tunic.

I really enjoy Journey to Babel,  I think it’s one of my favouriteuniverse building episodes that should be required viewing for anyone creatively doing anything with Star Trek.
