I think it wasn’t until seeing her in full flight in Star Trek Generations that I finally got the appeal of the Galaxy class Enterprise, of course that was ironic as this was also the film in which she met her demise in spectacular fashion. I had the promotional VHS guide to Generations and it showed the making of the crash sequence. How awesome was it that it was a practical effect with a miniature!? I always remember that they used fluorescent green paint for the grass whilst noting that on camera it looks fantastic but in real life it looked awful and bright.
I think seeing the Enterprise move differently to the series just gave me a better feel for the ship. I think it was a real shame they retired her before the movies.
This is part of a series of Enterprise illustrations that were commissioned last year. The entire set will be available as a print series after I’m done.
